Why?

One might ask why provide a subjective opinion when so much effort has gone to creating an objective score. The information is being provided to offset situations that simply cannot be accurately reflected via objective scoring. Subjective data offsets anomalies like:

  • A company that has demonstrated reasonable measures to protect customer privacy in the overall, but doesn't represent themselves well under the given criteria.
  • Everything in the category looks terrible in score so that nobody would even consider taking advantage of the offerings of the category. The recommendation is a way of conveying that it is just the nature of products in the category to be risky, or that industry hasn't come woken up to communicating the benefits of their privacy practices.
  • A recommendation can also be a way of indicating that a high score is simply a charade by a company that knows how to look good on paper.
